Platini to announce FIFA presidency bid this week


Michel Platini is expected to confirm his decision to contest for FIFA presidency by the end of this week.

The former France midfielder, is currently the president of UEFA, a position he assumed in 2007.

With current FIFA chief, Sepp Blatter, announcing that he will step down next January, speculations have increased that Platini is first in line to replace the 79-year-old.

Platini has reportedly gained the support of Europe, South America (CONMEBOL), Central America, Asia (AFC), North America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF).

Chairman of the Liberia Football Association, Musa Bility, has already expressed his interest in contesting for the position and claims he has the support of Africa.

The elections will hold February 26. .
