Platini admits he is helpless about Monaco’s spending

UEFA president Michel Platini, has revealed that there is nothing that the football can do about Monaco’s spending, until they qualify for competitions in Europe.

The Ligue 2 champions, who are owned by Dmitry Rybolovlev, have already spent over €100 million on Falcao, James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho and Ricardo Carvalho.

Their spending spree, has led to questions over UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP), but Platini has now offered an explanation.

“For now, Monaco are not in any Uefa competitions, so they are not in our thoughts. When that happens, we’ll talk,” Platini told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Platini also insisted that the case of Malaga, was not a manhunt and they were not used as a scapegoat.

“CAS, an independent body, confirmed our sanctions. I can assure you that it is not in the interest of Uefa to expel Malaga: FFP rather serves to help them.

“Around April-May 2014 we will figure out who has complied with the rules and who hasn’t. This will be the decisive crossroads.”
