Plateau unrest: 7,000 displaced persons in need of medical assistance – NEMA

Following a renewed violence between the Fulani and indigenous Taroh communities of Bolgang, Magama and Karkashi in Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State, which led to the death of several persons, especially women and children, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has disclosed that about 7000 people are at a camp within the LGEA Pilot Primary School in Mabudi, the headquarters of Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State, and are currently in need of Medical assistance.

Abdulsalam Mohammed, who is the Zonal Coordinator, North Central of NEMA, has warned that urgent medical assistance needs to be provided for the victims at the camp, to prevent the spread of diseases.

Mohammed who spoke with Dailypost in an interview on Wednesday said the weather at the camp could be harmful to the health of the displaced persons, especially the children.

According to him, “Most children are being exposed to very chilled weather which might be dangerous to their health.

Adding that, NEMA has intimated Medicien Son Frontier (Doctors Without Borders) who are in the state to assist the medical needs of the displaced persons, in order to prevent possible outbreak of diseases.

He further stated that only yesterday ( Tuesday), NEMA provided relief materials, which were basically food and household items, and other essential items needed by women and children.

Some of the items include; tomatoes, rice, millet, corn, wrappers, children’s diapers, children’s clothes, indomie packs, toiletries, powdered milk, blankets and mattresses.
