Following the violence that erupted between the Taroh and Fulanis of Southern Plateau, leading to the death of many people and the destruction of property, worth millions of naira, Leadership of the Ngwan Ishi O’Taroh [NIO] in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, has refuted allegations making the round that the Taroh speaking people were behind the continuous attacks on Wase.
This was disclosed in a press statement made available to Dailypost in Jos on Thursday. The statement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Lohbut Jangle, disputed media reports that the persistent attacks on Wase and Langtang North as well as Langtang South Local Governments were been perpetrated by suspected Taroh youth.
According to him, “The Ngwan Ishi O’Tarok was initially silent on the issues, but has decided to speak and inform the entire World of the evil been perpetrated against the Taroh nationals in Wase and environs. According to him, Tarok people in Wase were been treated as outcast.
Decrying that several of the Taroh speaking indigenes resident in the Wasa Local Government have been killed, many injured, with several property destroyed in spite of the security men deployed to the area to safeguard lives.
Lamenting further, he said, “On the 27th of July 2013, suspected Hausa Fulanis invaded Kasa village, killed 3 persons, and leaving one person critically injured. On the same day, the suspects had attacked Zamchang village, killing a woman, injuring three persons, rustled 15 cows belonging to a family, burnt 20 compounds and motorcycles without apprehending any of them”.
Jangle further explained that hours after the Committee setup by the State Government to investigate the violence and renewed killings in the Southern Plateau concluded its tour on the 30th, July, 2013 with an appeal for cease fire among warring factions, suspected Hausa-Fulanis again invaded Zamtep, Gaje and Tunga villages, killing women and children, with many property set ablaze, and rendering most families homeless.
The statement blamed the continuous violence in the area on the influx of Fulani headsmen and the inability of the security agents charged with the responsibilities of maintain law and order in the area to live up the desired expectations of keeping vigil on lives and property of the people.
