Following the inconclusive March 9 elections, the people of Plateau State will return to the polls on Saturday to decide who will be their next governor.
Prior to the election been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the incumbent Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Simon Lalong was leading after polling 583,255 votes while his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Jeremiah Useni, got 538,326 votes.
Giving reasons for declaring the election inconclusive, INEC had explained that the difference between the two major contending parties, APC and PDP, was less than the votes canceled.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Richard Anande had explained that the difference between the two major contenders which is 44, 929 is less than the cancelled votes of 49, 347, reasons for the cancellation.
Saturday’s supplementary election will now hold in nine local government areas where votes were canceled.
