Plateau LGCs dissolution: Group urges Buhari, NBA to intervene

The dissolution of Chairmen and Councilors of the 17 LGCs in Plateau State, by Governor Simon Lalong, has continued to receive reactions, as a Civil Society Organisation under the aegis of Global Peace and Life Rescue Initiative has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Bar Association to call the Governor to order, describing it as unlawful and unconstitutional.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the CSO’s Executive Director, Mr. Melvin Ejeh and made available to DAILY POST in Jos, Monday. The statement condemned the Governor’s threat of using security to implement his unpopular action of handing over to the Directors of Personnel of the Councils.

It reads, “We strongly condemn this illegal and tyranic act and call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigeria Bar Association, to urgently direct the Executive Governor of Plateau State to rescind this illegal and undemocratic decision in the interest of peace and justice.

“We wonder why a Governor who is a lawyer and a former Speaker who presided over the three years tenure for elected Local Government Chairmen of the State.

“But will wake up one morning and breach the law which he help passed, citing corruption and disloyalty as a yardstick”.

“Why didn’t the Governor constitute an investigative panel to look into this allegations before taken any action?

“Or has the Governor become a court and judge at the same time? Was this not what some PDP public officials did and Nigerians threw them out through the polls?

“Is Governor Lalong telling us now that the Rule of Law widely canvassed by his party is a sham?

“Otherwise, how can a Governor who got massive votes across party lines dissolved elected Local Government Chairmen? He further asked.

The CSO appealed to the President and the NBA to as a matter of urgency direct Governor Lalong to rescind his decision and allow the Chairmen complete their 3 years legal tenure, to forstall any breakdown of law and other.
