The Commander of the Special Task Force, STF, responsible for the maintenance of peace in Plateau State, Major General Tabugbo Ude, has appealed to elders, especially in the Northern Senatorial Zone of the State to prevail on the youths to desist from engaging in criminal activities and taking laws into their hands.
Ude stated this Tuesday in Jos, on the heels of the renewed attacks and killings in the last three days in Kassa and Bisichi areas of Barkin Ladi, where Fulani and Berom youths have been engaging in killing and counter-killing leaving scores dead.
The Commander added that, “Some people are bent on fomenting trouble in the State. Isolated killings and reprisal attacks being carried out by the youths are worrisome but we are on top of the situation.
“Last night, we didn’t sleep, both sides are taking laws into their hands. We have drafted troops from Sectors 5 and 7 and the headquarters to prevent breakdown of law and order”.
It would be recalled that on Monday, seven people were killed in three different attacks in Barkin Ladi local Government Area of Plateau state.
It was gathered that in one of the attacks, some unknown gunmen laid ambush for some cattle grazers in Kassa village, and killed three of them.
In another attack, a truck loaded with four cows was attacked on its way to the Cattle Market in Bukuru, Jos South LGA.
The owner of the cows, one Ali Suleiman was killed, but the driver of the truck, Samaila Ibrahim escaped with bullet wounds.
In the third attack, three dead bodies were spotted along Barkin Ladi road, apparently dumped by some unknown assailants.
However, the three bodies were later discovered to be the bodies of three Fulanis, who left Saminaka, Kaduna State to visit their Kinsmen in Sho village of Barkin Ladi LGA.
The three young men were attacked by gunmen and taken to unknown destination.
They were killed by their captors and their bodies were dumped on the highway, along Barkin Ladi-Jos road, where their bodies were discovered at dawn.
