Plateau killings: NBA, others react to massacre

More reactions have continued to trail the killing of scores of people in villages in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Mangu and Jos South Local Government Areas as the Nigerian Bar Association, Jos branch has condemned in strong terms, the “senseless and mindless destruction of lives and property”, since Saturday, 23rd June, 2018.

The NBA in a press statement signed by its Chairman, Bon S. Ngyou, said it was deeply saddened by the incidents.

It reads, “The NBA is gravely saddened by this development and calls on the security agents to quickly bring this dastardly act to an immediate halt as it is unacceptable.

“We cannot continue to toe this path to perdition.

The NBA said it deeply empathizes with those who lost their loved ones, shares in their pain and pray for the reposed of souls of the deceaseds.

In the same vein, a former Governor of Plateau State, Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun, has expressed surprise at the number of deaths and level of carnage in the recent killing of innocent citizens by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Tapgun, in a press statement, described the recurring killings in Plateau State as “unacceptable”, especially as some semblance of peace has been restored in the state.

“I appreciate the efforts of the present administration to maintain the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the state as well as the efforts of the Special Task Force or Operation Safe Haven, in keeping and restoring the peace on the Plateau.

“I urge all residents of the state to eschew violence and allow peace to reign. I also urge them to learn to live in peace, love and harmony and this is only the panacea to peace.

“I commiserate with the government and people of Plateau state, especially the families of those who lost their lives.

“I appreciate the government for taking proactive measure to ensure that the crisis didn’t escalate or result to reprisals”, he stressed.
