Plateau community attack: Lalong, Pwajok call for calm

Following the recent attack in Kwall village of Bassa Local Government Area, LGA which shares boundary with Vwang district of Jos South LGA, the Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong has called for calm.

Governor Lalong, in a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, made available to newsmen yesterday in Jos, assured inhabitants of the two Local Government Areas of government’s determination to protect their lives and property, adding that “Security Agencies have been mandated to ensure an end to this dastardly act, also ensuring they fish out the criminal elements and prosecute all those responsible for the killings”.

He noted that government will not allow the hard-earned peace in the state to be ruined by “the sheer criminal intentions of conflict entrepreneurs”.

Lalong added that the laws of the land is there for anyone legitimately aggrieved to seek justice instead of taking the laws into their hands.

He then advised ethnic communities to always respect one another’s tradition, culture and beliefs.

In a similar development, the member representing Jos South/Jos East Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Edward Pwajok, has expressed sadness over “the breakdown of law and order in parts of my constituency, Vwang district of Jos South Local Government and the people of Irigweland in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Pwajok, in a press statement made available to journalists on Thursday, added that, “I have received several calls updating me of the sad development that has claimed a number of lives and houses torched.”I consider this development not only as sad but rather unfortunate considering the long standing relationship that has existed amongst the two brotherly communities.

The lawmaker appealed for calm, urged the those perpetrators to sheath their swords and allow peace to once again reign.

“We must learn to tolerate each other in this trying moments of our lives never to allow parochial interest to over run our sense of good judgment.

“We must know the very reason for our existence and why we shall continue to live as one. Destruction will not add any meaning to our togetherness,” he appealed.

Pwajok condoled with the families of the victims who lost their lives in the fracas and those whose houses were torched.
