Plateau attack: You don’t have monopoly of violence – PFN tells killer herdsmen

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has warned those perpetrating heinous acts in the country not to think that they have the monopoly of violence.

It said that the “peace drive and peacemaking” of the Church should not be misunderstood as a weakness.

The warning was given by the National President of PFN, Rev. Felix Omobude, while addressing journalists in Jos the State Capital, when he visited the State to commiserate with the people over the recent killings.

Omobude said, “Plateau State has been known as peace loving people, and on several occasions the enemy had tried to contest the gift of God in this land.

“The recent killings has touched the leadership and membership of the PFN, and we tender our condolences to the government and the people of Plateau State.

“On the occasion of this visit, the PFN is calling on the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government, to rise to the challenge and secure the lives and properties of Nigerians, it is the primary responsibility that the government owes the people.”

According to him, “This government cannot say Nigerians have not been patient, this government by their lukewarm attitude in responding to violence across the nation has stretched the patience of Nigerians to a breaking point, has stretched beyond our elastic limit.

“We call on the Federal and State Governments, especially when we understand that, one of the campaign promises of this present Federal Government was security, never in the history of this nation has innocent blood been shed across the land as we are witnessing.

“We call on the government to fish out the perpetrators of this evil across the land, we want to see them punished, we want to see them answer for their crime.

“What has happened in the past, is that when it happens like this, at a move the government will say they condemn it, we want to see beyond mere condemnation. We want those shielding these evil men to be expose.

“While we continue to call on Christians to tow the part of peace in line with the injunctions of our faith, I want to sound unequivocally, that the people perpetrating this evil should not think that they have the monopoly of violence.

“The peace drive and peacemaking of the Church should not be misunderstood to be weakness; when pushed to the wall, the Church can react”, he maintained.

“We call on our security agencies to rise to the challenge. The nation that cannot secure lives and properties of her people is not yet free.

“Lastly, I want to call on the Church, Christians all over this country to take advantage of the opportunity that democracy offers; it offers every citizen of voting age to either endorse or change their government.

“And every Christian and indeed all Nigerians should use this opportunity to do what is right. May God bless Nigeria our own country, the only one we have. We cannot allow it to be taken over by evil. The church of Jesus Christ continues to match on.

“We are not intimidated, we cannot be cowed down, we have what it takes to defend ourselves, the government is abdicating their responsibility”, he stressed.
