There seems to be some uneasiness brewing in the camp of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, as some Executive Committee (EXCO) members of the party have accused the State Chairman, Hon. Letep Dabang, of insincerity in appointments, personalization of the party, unaccountability of party funds and hijacking all contributions made to the party.
This was contained in a document, made available to journalists in Jos, drawing the attention of Governor Simon Lalong to what they called ugly developments in the party, which they said if left unchecked may destroy the fortunes of the party and its smooth running.
The document which was signed by Mr Binkur L. Binkur Asst. Secretary, Paul Attsar Zonal Chairman, Southern Zone and 17 others, out of the 23 EXCO members of the APC, alleged that; Dabang nominates all political appointments without any consultation with the State Working Committee or the Executive Committee.
It added that, all activities of the party at the state level that are supposed to be carried out by the officers concerned have been hijacked by the Chairman.
The document further alleged that the constitutional requirement that the party’s account be audited annually has not been done for the past two years under Dabang’s watch.
“All contributions made for the upliftment of the party have been hijacked by the chairman alone”.
The aggrieved EXCO members went on to call on the governor, saying, “As the leader of the Rescue Team, we are all living witnesses as to how you rescued our state from insecurity to a peaceful one, we have no doubt you will salvage the party by looking at the issues we raised, whether right or wrong, and proffer solutions to them.
However, when Dabang was contacted, he debunked the allegations, describing them as “baseless and galvanized treachery.”
“As a party Chairman, how can i be accused of making political appointments when the governor is there? He asked.
On the allegation that he was running the party alone, Dabang said, “How can I be chairman, secretary, treasurer, publicity secretary and all other EXCO at the same time?”
The APC chieftain maintained that accusing him of hijacking their responsibilities as EXCO members was a figment of their imagination.
According to him, all allegations involving contracts given to the party from some quarters and the auditing of the accounts cannot be substantiated, saying, “all are nothing but lies.”
The Chairman further stated that the allegations were just a means to smear his hard-earned reputation as a patriot.
