Plans to impeach Gov Shema suffer setback

Plans by the 15 All Progressives Congress, APC, members of the Katsina State House of Assembly to impeach outgoing Governor, Ibrahim Shema may have suffered a major setback, as the Minority leader of the House, Abdulahi Mahuta, has denied the existence of such plot.

It will be recalled that the spokesman of 15 APC members of the House, Danlami Kurfi, had on Tuesday told newsmen that the lawmakers had concluded plans to impeach the governor and serve him with an impeachment notice over poor handling of state finances along other impeachable offences, adding that the governor would be served the notice of impeachment when the assembly resumes on Monday.

The Minority Leader however said in a statement that, “the alleged plan by the 15 APC members to impeach Governor Shema is false and untrue in its entirety”.

Mahuta said: “The 15 APC members had never sat and discussed the said impeachment plot at any time. As such, such a plan remains, at best, the respected personal opinion of Hon. Danlami Kurfi”

The Minority Leader however agreed that the administration of Governor Shema has its blemishes, but added that the state needed a conducive atmosphere to a peaceful transition.

According to Mahuta, the people of Katsina had already impeached Governor Shema and the entire PDP structures in the state during the just concluded general elections.”

However, the APC members’ spokesperson, while reacting to Mahuta’s denial, insisted that the group was already perfecting its plans to serve the governor the impeachment notice.

“If the minority leader is not part of it, it’s fine as he is entitled to his opinion but I can tell you that there is such plan and we will serve the notice by Monday”.
