Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick, has pleaded with players and coaches of the Super Eagles to exercise patience over their outstanding bonuses as the federation is currently in financial crisis.
Pinnick added that he is doing all he could to avoid a dispute ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia on October 9.
Speaking in a Youtube interview, he said, “I believe that if you work you should earn your dues, but the current economic situation has put us in a very precarious situation in terms of funding.
“It’s not just Nigeria but a global recession and it’s very difficult to fulfil all our financial obligations because the government is struggling.”
One of the Super Eagles players had earlier told the BBC, “We understand the financial situation affecting the country.”
“We haven’t been paid our bonuses from marches but we just hope that they will sort it out as promised It’s only important for everyone to focus on the game against Zambia and not the money problems affecting the federation.”
Meanwhile, the NFF has reportedly cut down their backroom staff and slashed the salaries and allowances of the various national team coaches, due to the recession affecting the country.
The Nigerian senior national team is drawn in Group B alongside Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia in their World Cup qualifiers group.
