Pinnick explains why NFF hired Pionetti as new goalkeeper trainer for Super Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, has explained why Enrico Pionetti, was hired as the Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer.

Head coach of the national team Gernot Rohr, arrived the CHAN Eagles camp in Kano on Monday with his former goalkeeper trainer during his time as coach of Ligue 1 club OGC Nice and Burkina Faso.

Pionetti’s arrival has raised doubts about the position and role of Alloy Agu in the team.

Pinnick who was special guest on Channels Television Programme, Sports Tonight on Wednesday night, said the move was not to undermine Agu but to help the team achieve its set goals.

“Every game we play we get technical reports and after the last game, we saw some defects in the goalkeeping department.

“We have a goalkeeper trainer, but like they say, two heads is better than one.

“Just as Salisu Yusuf is the head coach of the team, Gernot Rohr is also there to support him and to perfect the skills of our coaches.

“We are not undermining anyone, but to try and perfect our strategy for the games. What I know is possibly what you don’t know.

“We should learn to adapt to situations when someone can give us some subtle and reliable assistance that can propel us to dream what we want to achieve. It doesn’t take anything away from any individual, and I think we should be commended.

“We want to make sure we win our two games against Cameroon,” he said.
