Pinnick charges Flying Eagles to qualify for World Cup

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has urged the Flying Eagles to defeat Congo in their second group game on Wednesday.

Manu Garba’s boys beat Senegal 3-1 in their Group A opener on Sunday and will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, if they win their next game.

Nigeria currently leads the group with three points, while Congo and Ivory Coast have one point each.

“It is great to start with three points, with the win over the host nation on Sunday. We are happy with that. But it is important that we go all out against Congo-Brazzaville on Wednesday and wrap up a ticket to the World Cup,” Pinnick told the NFF website.

“We cannot under-rate the Congolese. Yes, we have a capable team, but when you get too confident, you can get a sucker punch. It is important that we play it like the championship final and earn the ticket to the World Cup early.”

The game against the Congolese is scheduled to kick off at 5.30pm.
