The Super Eagles arrived at the OR Tambo Airport today, to a rapturous welcome from excited fans.
Nigeria has not won a trophy in 19 years and the fans openly called for the Eagles to bring back the AFCON trophy, although coach Stephen Keshi was quick to play down expectations.
“Of course we have come here to compete for the trophy, but we cannot say we will win it,” Keshi said. “What we have to do is take each game as it comes. And then we’ll see how it goes.”
The captain of the team, Joseph Yobo, was full of praises for Keshi, who he said has the much needed experience to lead the team to great things.
“He has been there before, has captained the team and all the players trust him and believe in him and we all want to play for him.”
