The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, (PFN) Cross River State chapter has decried the continuous injustice and lack of fairness in governance at the national and state levels.
The Chairman of the group, Dr Lawrence Ekwok stated this in Calabar during a solemn assembly held to mark the 57th Independence anniversary of Nigeria.
He explained that many ethnic groups in the country were aggrieved and felt marginalised which was why they felt they had to strive for their rights.
“When you do things and say ‘I don’t care’ people are bound to react and so leaders at every level should make sure there is fairness, social justice and equity and unless that is done, you will continue to have a harvest of agitations”, he said.
He said whether in the military, political offices and in distribution of amenities, “there should be equity so that people will not continue to be aggrieved and engage in agitations that are driving the country to a point of conflict.
“That is why people are asking for restructuring which the PFN supports so that they can take care of their own needs with resources from their areas.”
The PFN Chairman said “presently there is laziness in government where people only wait to collect federal allocation at the end of the month but when power is devolved to the states and units, there will be hard work and competetion among the units which will lead to development across the country.”
According to him, restructuring the country was not dissolving the country but giving each ethnic group the opportunity to exploit its capacity and resources to the fullest.
He said the PFN had been holding solemn assembly every year to pray for the country and Cross River State and this had manifested in reduction of crime.
