Petroleum dealer docked over fire outbreak in Ekiti

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday arraigned one Kayode Jegede, 45, over alleged negligence that resulted to fire outbreak.

The DAILY POST reports that, the prosecuting counsel who is the officer in charge of legal matters of Ekiti State Police Command informed the Court that the offence was committed on Jan. 8 at Ijigbo area in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that he conducted himself in manner so rash and negligent as to endanger human life and omitted to take precautions against probable danger from his petroleum filling station, Strive filling station.

The prosecutor charged him for allowing fire outbreak which caused damage to the property of Elder Esan Olufemi, Mr Sunday Omotosho, Mary Ngbede King and others valued about One hundred and thirteen million naira (N113, 000,000).

According to him, he committed an offence punishable under Section 343 C of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The prosecuting counsel informed the court that there are twenty five witnesses to prosecute the case.

DAILY POST reports that the accused pleaded not guilty, while his counsel, Mr Lekan Olatawura‎ applied for his bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

Chief Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye, consequently granted bail to the defendant based on the application of his counsel in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties, one of the sureties must be a civil servant.

He ‎adjourned the case till March 6 for further hearing.
