Long queues of vehicles in some petrol stations are gradually resurfacing in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, an indication of fuel scarcity as observed by DAILY POST Monday.
An investigation carried out showed that in most of the petrol stations where the product is available, a litre is sold for above the official pump price of N145 to mostly N147.
DAILY POST also learnt that most filling stations within Damaturu metropolis are stocked with the product, but remained closed as owners are anticipating a full-blown scarcity soon.
Auwal Isa, a motorist, called on government to arrest the situation before it gets to a level where dealing with it will be a nightmare as experience previous years.
The hoarding, on the part of marketers and panic-buying by end users, may not be unconnected with the alleged plan by the Federal Government to remove fuel subsidy as recently advocated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The feared fuel crisis is also coming at a time when the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had assured Nigerians that it had one billion litres of PMS in its stock for the month of April alone while urging end users not to go into panic buying of the commodity.
