Petrol crisis: Fayose, oil dealers’ truce has shamed APC – Sikiru Lawal

Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Sikiru Lawal, has declared that the politics of bitterness introduced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the strike declared by petrol dealers in the State contributed largely to the intractable nature of the impasse.

Lawal accused the opposition party of having penchant for politicizing sensitive issues that have to do with the wellbeing and welfare of Ekiti people, saying this vividly confirmed that the APC was not committed to the upliftment of the standard of living of Ekiti residents.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, Lawal commended Governor Ayodele Fayose and his counterpart in the State of Osun , Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for displaying statesmanship, which he said accounted for why the issue that was envisaged to be difficult was amicably resolved.

Lawal appealed to the people of the State not to allow themselves to be misled by the antics of the opposition, describing APC as a party that had no true love for the people of the state.

The former Deputy Governor said the proposed demolition of petrol stations built in residential areas by Fayose’s government was meant to safeguard the lives of the people and such policy, according to him was mooted without sinister motives or vindictive intentions against anybody.‎

He said it was quite disturbing for APC to be issuing inflammatory comments through its State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun to condemn such a well-patterned policy, regretting that APC was only interested in playing politics with the lives of Ekiti citizens .

The former number two man said for APC to have politicized such a lofty policy, further corroborated the fear being entertained by the masses that the party lacks human feelings and cannot be recognized as an alternative platform to the PDP in Ekiti.‎

Lawal appealed to the oil dealers to make themselves impervious to political interferences in the interest of Ekiti people and the sustainability of the robust relationship thy have been enjoying with the government under Fayose’s watch.

He added that the resolution of the crisis will chart a new course in oil business in Ekiti and taught a lesson that no single individual can be bigger than any government , regardless of how influential the ‎person or corporate body might be.
