Petr Cech: Courtois reacts as Arsenal goalie announces retirement

Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois has sent a tribute message to Petr Cech after the Arsenal goalkeeper announced he will retire at the end of the season.

36-year-old Cech decided to call time on his playing career having spent 15 years in the Premier League with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Cech was Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper for 10 seasons at Stamford Bridge before Courtois returned from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid in 2014.

The Belgium international was then made the No.1 at Chelsea by Jose Mourinho, which paved the way for Cech’s switch to Arsenal one year later.

And following Cech’s decision to end his career this season, Courtois has praised his former teammate and says the former Czech Republic international is an ‘exceptional example’ to other goalkeepers.

Courtois posted on Twitter: “Thank you Petr Cech for your help during my first year in Chelsea.

‘‘Congratulations on your amazing career!

‘‘You were an exceptional colleague, friend and example for me personally and for all us, goalkeepers. Good luck in the future!’’
