Peter Etim: Police recover vehicle of kidnapped journalist in Cross River

The Police in Cross River State have recovered the vehicle of a kidnapped seasoned journalist, Peter Etim aka, God Father in state.

Etim, a staff of the Cross River State Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) Radio/TV services was kidnapped in the early hours of Friday while going to work.

DAILY POST had reported that the victim was the one who supposed to have opened the station when he was kidnapped in front of his house in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State in the early hours of the day.

“Some gunmen in Police uniform accosted him and took him with his vehicle to unknown destination. We have not gotten in touch with him ever since as his phone was switched off,” an eyewitness, who pleaded for anonymity alleged.

A senior member of Etim’s family told our correspondent on phone that the victim’s vehicle was recovered in Biase local government area of the State, about eighty kilometre away from Calabar.

An eyewitness who declined mentioning her name said that the vehicle was vandalized, “It was recovered by the police in Biase local government area of the state” she stated.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ms Irene Ugbo told our correspondent on phone on Sunday that the vehicle had been recovered but the victim was being expected.

“The kidnappers had called the wife of the victim and warned her not to involve the police and said if the family involved the police, they will kill him.

“The car is in the custody of the police but we are yet to rescue the victim. The police are working assiduously to ensure that he is released,” she stated.
