Manchester United’s record buy, Paul Pogba, has claimed that too much is being expected of him.
Since his return to Old Trafford from Juventus last summer, Pogba has scored seven times and provided five assists in 43 appearances in all competitions.
The 24-year-old feels critics have been unfair to him, by judging him based on the number of goals he has scored in England.
“I think people look at me and judge me for not scoring goals and some things like that,” he told a news conference ahead of United’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Anderlecht.
“Like I said, it’s football. The transfer is something else, on the pitch it’s something else.
“I’m a midfield player and people sometimes think I’m an attacking player. People say ‘Pogba should score goals, do this’. I think the press expect me to be a defender, a midfielder, a striker. But I just have to focus on my job. If I can make the team win, I’ll do it.
“But my job is to play in midfield, make assists. If I’d scored some goals that hit the crossbar, people wouldn’t think like this. But it’s okay, it’s fine.”
