Pellegrini praises Iheanacho after double against Southampton

Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has heaped praise on Kelechi Iheanacho, after his brace against Southampton in a 4-2 loss at Southampton on Sunday.

The former English champions rested players ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid this week and were beaten at St Marys.

However, Pellegrini singled out the Super Eagles forward, despite the defeat that dented their top four hopes.

“It’s very important for a player to score goals. I was happy with the way he (Iheanacho) played today. I’m happy for him with the goals that he scored,” Pellegrini told City’s official website.

“In the first half we had clear options to score so they scored the two goals but we got back in it with Kelechi.”

Iheanacho has now scored 13 goals for City in all competitions.
