Albert Einsten hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, have moved to dismiss reports about Pele’s health and insists he is on the road to recovery.
The football legend underwent an operation to remove kidney stones on November 13, but was forcced back to hospital with a urinary infection.
Rumours began to circulate this week, that the 74-year-old was admitted into intensive care as his situation had worsened. But the hospital have come out to deny such stories.
“The patient Edson Arantes do Nascimento [Pele] has shown improvement in his clinical condition and is still in care in the special care unit, still in temporary treatment RRT [continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration] and lucid,” a press statement read.
“The only bacteria identified yet is sensitive to the antibiotics used. No systemic infection was identified. The patient eats normally by the mouth.
“The hospital will provide an update when there is new information.”
