Diego Maradona has fired verbal attacks at Pele, stating that he should not be compared to the Brazilian, because he says “stupid stuff when he takes the wrong pills”.
The two are widely regarded as the finest footballers in the history of football, but have maintain a frosty relationship, readily throwing tantrums in the other’s direction.
“I think I’m the best player ever. Why would you compare me to Pele? My mother said that I’m stronger and that he used to play with players who didn’t even move on the pitch,” Maradona said at a press conference.
“I don’t like comparisons with Pele because of the stupid things he says. He keeps on saying stupid stuff when he takes the wrong pills.”
The Argentine legend, also spoke of his compatriot, Lionel Messi, insisting that the Barcelona forward has not reached his level yet.
“Messi? He hardly touched the ball against AC Milan, but he remains a great player. However, I still see myself as the better player.”
