The Winihin Jemide Series (WJS) and Youth Experience Days Africa (YEDA) 2016 legend edition with Pele has been postponed, the organisers said in Lagos on Monday.
A statement by the organisers made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the event was postponed due to reports of the world football legend’s ill health on August 5.
The organizers had at a news conference on July 16, announced that the Pele would be in the country for a two-day programme starting on August 11.
“We are sorry that we have to disappoint the many Pele fans and legend of edition supporters at this time who are looking forward to this event.
“As we pray for his speedy and full recovery, we believe that it would be inconsiderate for us to put his health at risk.
“Our ticketing platforms will be offering a full refund on all ticket purchased and a new date for the event will be announced over the course of the next few weeks.
“We hope the new dates will be suitable for everyone.
“The decision to postpone the event did not come easily and we want to express gratitude to sponsors and stakeholders,’’ the statement said.
