Brazil legend, Pele, has claimed that he snubbed the opportunity to move to Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan during his playing days.
The 74-year-old is regarded as one of the best footballers to have played the game, but spent most of his career with Santos.
He spent 18 years at the Brazilian club, before he left to play for New York Cosmos in 1975. Pele spent three years there, before he hung up his boots.
“I had many offers to sign for Madrid, Barca, Milan and Bayern, but I was happy at Santos and that’s why I stayed for 18 years,” Pele stated.
“When I left, it was an experience to go to the Cosmos and promote football, do soccer clinics and learn English… if not, I would never have left Brazil.”
Pele, who is his country’s all-time highest scorer, never tested himself in any European League.
