PDP Youth Circuit disclaims fake Youth Group demanding President’s resignation

The Youth Circuit of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has on Friday denied a group acting under the name “PDP Youth Council”, saying the group is faceless and it “is not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and neither is it registered or recognized by the Youth Directorate of the PDP.” The PDP Youth Council, had last week in a press release called for the resignation of President Goodluck Jonathan, if he was “incapable of finding solutions to the nation’s problems.”

Below is the full text of the statement by the PDP Youth Circuit:

Our attention has been drawn to a phantom group by the name, PDP Youth Council and its spurious attempts to cause disaffection within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in its recent press statement calling for the resignation of President Goodluck Jonathan. While the freedom of expression remains the inalienable rights of all citizens in a democracy, we believe such rights must be exercised responsibly and constructively with regard for constituted authority. We wish to state clearly that this group has no affiliation, association or connection whatsoever with the PDP Youth Circuit of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The faceless group is not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and neither is it registered or recognized by the Youth Directorate of the PDP. The PDP is very clear on the registration procedure and affiliation of youth groups. All such bodies are registered with the PDP Youth Directorate after they must have satisfied specific pre-requisite conditions. We believe the statement credited to these impostors is the work of some mischievous political elements bent on derailing the on-going reforms within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Our position on the 2015 presidential election is clear and consistent with that of our mother party; we have not commenced any campaigns and have not made any choice of candidate. The PDP believes strongly in its internal democratic process and we are committed to strengthening the democratic ideals that make this process even more transparent. We urge the government of President Goodluck Jonathan to stay focused on fighting corruption at all levels and deliver the dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people. These are the critical issues of national significance at the moment. Meanwhile, our confidence in the current leadership of the PDP remains unflinching.
