PDP workers cheer as Gulak pronounces self as substantive PDP chairman

The crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took a new dimension on Wednesday when the erstwhile Special Adviser to then President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak pronounced himself as the substantive chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Joined by his loyalists, including former Special Assistant to Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe and a former Commissioner in Bayelsa State, Chief Ayakeme Whisky, Gulak made the declaration inside the National Working Committee Hall, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

He explained that his decision to take over the leadership of the party was in respect of the court order of December 16, 2015, which asked the party to name someone from the North-East to replace the former chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.

Addressing the cheering crowd, which included workers at the secretariat, Gulak stressed that the national working committee members must work with him in order to move the party forward.

Former Deputy National Chairman, South-South, of the party, Prince Uche Secondus had been acting as chairman since the resignation of Adamu Mu’azu from the position last year.
