PDP won’t contest Senate presidency with APC – David Mark

Outgoing Senate President, David Mark, Thursday, disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will not contest the Senate presidency with the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Mark, who has been leading the Upper Chamber of the national assembly since the last eight years, said the contest for presiding officers in the 8th Senate was for senators-elect under the umbrella of the APC only.

The senator, who represents Benue Zone C, made this disclosure while responding to a campaign carried out on the floor of the Senate by the outgoing Minority Leader, Senator George Akume, seeking his (Mark) support for his ambition to become the next deputy senate president.

Akume, who lauded the outgoing senate president’s matchless qualities, had publicly asked that he be supported, given that they were not just brothers but from the same Benue State.

Akume asked Mark him to make the people of Benue proud by supporting and helping to actualize the aspiration of Senator Ahmad Lawan as Senate President and himself as the Deputy Senate President respectively in the 8th Senate.

In his response, Mark said: “Finally, because Senator Akume also thanked me, let me thank him and remind him that we are in PDP and election of any coming member is the matter for APC not for PDP”.
