The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has appealed to the Ahmed Makarfi-led Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to put its house in order to contribute its quota in the opposition politics for the deepening of Nigeria’s democracy now that the leadership tussle in the Party has been settled.
The umbrella body of all registered political parties and political associations in the country made the call while hailing the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which brought to an end a crisis that almost brought the PDP to its knees.
In a statement by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, the CNPP said: “We congratulate the PDP for the conclusion of its legal battle occasioned by the polarization of the party. As an opposition political party and member of our association, the verdict of by the Supreme Court has again strengthened democracy in the country.
“The victory for the PDP is a victory for democracy and all members of the CNPP, which is the umbrella association of all political parties and groups in the Nigeria.
“For us, the Supreme Court has established itself as the true last hope of the ordinary Nigerians and the highly placed in the society.
“We enjoin all member associations and political parties to always adhere to the principle of rule of law in the face of any such crisis as justice may be delayed but cannot be denied.
“It is now time for the PDP to put its house in other to contribute its quota in the opposition politics for the deepening of democracy in Nigeria.”
