PDP ward congress: Wike, Fayose vow to disqualify violent aspirants

The governor of Rivers State, Barr Nyesom Wike and his Ekiti State counterpart, Mr Ayo Fayose have warned governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, who will involve in violence that they risk disqualification.

Wike and Fayose who addressed party members at the state party Secretariat said they were in the state to reclaim it by doing the right thing to elect the right candidate.

Wike said that the PDP can win Anambra state governorship election if all members of the party in the state would cooperate with its leadership.

He said if the party could win the Rivers State governorship election, despite stiff opposition from ranking members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, it would be a simple case in Anambra as there is no strong force in the state from the opposition.

Wike said no one would buy the officials or even use money to influence the process as he and his team came prepared for the job and did not need assistance from any of the party’s aspirant to do a good job in the state.

He said, “I am the chairman of the ward congress committee, and the governor of Ekiti State, Fayose who is the chairman of PDP governors’ forum is also a member. PDP looked very well before selecting us to do the job.

“We are not people you can buy with money. Look at my car there, I bought the fuel by myself and came down for the job, and we came with our own kola and drinks too, so we do not need anyone to give us kola or drink to do the job.

“We have resolved that there will be a ward congress, and no one should talk to us about consensus or even entertain fear that we may be bought. We have told the aspirants to go into the field and prove themselves, and if they are popular they will have nothing to fear about.

“What we need is for the aspirants to come together and support themselves and the party, and who ever wins the ticket will surely win in Anambra. Who do you have here in opposition party that is strong that can stop PDP? If we can win in Rivers State, Anambra is a small case because you don’t have anyone here that can stop PDP,” Wike said.

His Ekiti counterpart, Fayose, however, cautioned that any attempt by any of the aspirants to cause violence in the ward congress would be metted with immediate disqualification.

Fayose assured that the process must be credible and acceptable enough as it is the first step to getting things right in Anambra again.

DAILYPOST gathered that intrigues and horse trading has characterized the party congress ahead of Saturday’s primary election as it is believed that any of the aspirants that gets a sizeable number of the delegates may eventually fly the party’s flag in the November election.
