Following the ruling of the Supreme Court on the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo has said that the status quo remains in line with the judgement of the Appeal Court.
Oladipo, in a phone interview with DAILY POST said contrary to “twisted information” on different social media platforms that the case had been struck out, the court only struck out the objection against some technicalities involved in the filling of the appeal by the Makarfi’s group, and agreed to hear the suit.
He opined that the ruling of the apex court did not in any way change the position of the appeal court, which recognised Ali modu Sheriff’s group as the authentic leadership of the party.
He, therefore, warned those who are peddling contrary position of the court to be careful in order not to run foul of the law.
According to him, “The status quo ante remains the same for PDP; our case was not struck out at all; what the Supreme Court struck out was our objection to Makarfi’s appeal on the process of filling the appeal.
“Our counsel had earlier prayed the apex court to terminate the appeal by the Makarfi’s group on some technical grounds, including their failure to obtain a leave of court before filling an appeal, in which the court objected and said the appeal was filed within a stipulated time in the face of law.
“The Supreme court listened to our objection to the name of PDP, which Makarfi’s group used to file their appeal and the substantive case, and thereby reserved judgement to a date yet to be communicated. Nothing has changed, the leadership of the party remains intact.
“No stay of execution was granted by the apex court against us, even an interlocutory injunction to restrain us from office, which was filed by the Makarfi’s group was later withdrawn.
“Those who are flying lies all around should be wary of the wrath of the law, they should not twist court rulings purposely to suit their political interest, no judgement yet at all.”
