PDP state chairmen boycott Aso Rock parley

Despite claims of peace and unity within its fold, recent events in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has exposed that such rhetoric were mere strategic crisis management.

An indication that all is not well within the ruling party, was the boycott of a scheduled meeting for Thursday night with President Goodluck Jonathan, by the state chairmen.

Some party members refused to attend the parley on the grounds that National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur walked them out of a meeting prior to the one billed to hold at the Presidential Villa.

Tukur had insisted that he wanted to have a private discussion with only party chairmen from states, under the control of opposition parties.

The action which infuriated the leaders reportedly prompted their decision to stay away from Aso Rock.

Dailypost had gathered that the development later got to the president, who then delegated Vice President Namadi Sambo to meet with those in attendance.

Aside the state chairmen, majority of the National Executive Council, NEC members also known as the G84 were present.

Details of what transpired are being kept in secrecy, but sources say the leadership of the party wants to secure enough support for Jonathan with the next NEC meeting approaching.

Tukur himself is said to be walking on a tight rope as many of the PDP state Governors may ask him to step down from his position.
