The Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State has slammed the Nigeria Police for imposing a curfew in the State over Local Government Election being conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government in Rivers State.
Rivers State PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah in a communiqué issued by his Media Adviser, Jerry Needam, accused the Police of crying more than the bereaved as there is no security threat or any breach of public order that will justify the imposition of a curfew in Rivers State at this time.
According to the statement, “It amounts to double standards for the Police to aid illegality because they are a defendant as well as the INEC in the suit where the Federal High Court Judge ordered parties to maintain status quo regarding release of voters’ registers.
“To conduct an election without the voters register, the main ingredient of legitimacy in the election, is a slap to the court. The police should be law enforcers and not law breakers”.
The statement added that “The so called Local Government Election by Governor Amaechi’s Government and APC is illegal and shall remain so. The PDP will not accord it any recognition as it deserves none. The APC cannot build something on nothing and expect it to stand”.
The PDP called on its supporters in the state to remain calm and resolute.
