The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa on Tuesday re-elected Alhaji Salisu Mamuda as the state’s Chairman of the party.
The PDP returning Officer, Alhaji Salisu Dabo, said all positions in the party were returned unopposed.
Dabo announced that Mamuda polled 966 votes to emerge the winner for the chairmanship position, while former Chairman of Buji Local Government, Alhaji Isa Bello got 961 to be elected unopposed as Secretary of the party.
According to him, other people elected unopposed are Alhaji Babandi Ibrahim as Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Garba Liman, Treasurer and Alhaji Aminu Jahun, Vice Chairman 1.
Others elected were Hajiya Telle Hadejia as Women Leader, Alhaji Zakari Bosuwa as Vice Chairman 2 and Alhaji Idris Danlawan as Assistant Secretary.
The returning officer said that the state congress was conducted peacefully and orderly as supporters agreed with the consensus arrangement which he described as constitutional.
He added that new officials elected were expected to serve a term of four years.
In his remarks, the re-elected Chairman thanked party supporters for the trust in him to still lead the party.
He promised not to disappoint them, saying he would lead the party to victory in 2019.
However, the story is different in Yobe as the party could not hold congress on Tuesday and had been shifted to Wednesday.
Alhaji Bello Mahmud, the Secretary of the state’s Caretaker Committee, told newsmen in Damaturu on Tuesday that party stakeholders were still meeting to ensure that every part of the state was given a fair representation.
He said “we have concluded everything to ensure that tomorrow’s (Wednesday) congress is both transparent and acceptable to all members of the party.’’
The secretary said members of the party were in high spirit to elect a new state executive council to pilot the affairs of the party. (NAN)
