PDP primaries: Councilor, three others arrested for allegedly setting police van on fire in Delta

A councilor in Ethiope East local Council in Delta State, Tony Sowho, and three others have been arrested for allegedly setting a patrol van belonging to the Nigeria Police in the area.

The trio was accused of committing the offence during the peoples Democratic Party (PDP,) primaries held for the house of Assembly for Ethiope East Constituency Last weekend.

Sowho was held with five others by Sapele Area police Command and are still being detained for further investigation.

Police public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to newsmen in Asaba, said the accused ere being detained for investigation and alleged mastermind of violence that led to burning the police van during PDP primaries in the area.

He said that one of the suspects, a councilor, Tony Sowho sustained burns and was arrested at a private hospital in Ughelli Community where he had gone to for treatment after leaving Okparabe community where he was initially admitted.

According to DSP Andrew Aniamaka, “Tony claimed he was trying to stop some persons from setting the police van ablaze when he was injured by the fire, we are investigating his claims, and others arrested too. It is unfortunate that some one who is expected to be law-abiding took laws into his hands. Investigation is still ongoing”
