Frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, SAN, has tasked Nigerians to remain steadfast and firm in defense of Nigeria’s democracy.
Turaki made the call when he visited state and local government executive members of the party in Awka on Wednesday to intimate them of his presidential aspiration.
The former Minister of Special Duties described the Tuesday’s defection of some lawmakers from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to the PDP as a special day for Nigeria’s democracy,
“I want to congratulate Nigerians and mostly members of the National Assembly for their zeal to fight for sustaining democracy.
“Nigerians, the PDP and lovers of democracy must ensure that our democracy is not truncated,” he said.
Turaki expressed concern over farmers/herdsmen’s frequent clashes, as well as the use of government institutions to fight opposition members.
According to him, the minimum expected of President Buhari was to show that he was on the side of Nigerians by bringing to book all those who abuse government institutions.
The presidential aspirant said Nigeria must be restructured beginning with an additional state for the South East to address the inequality
“The issues of true federalism, devolution of power, resource control and state police will be looked into.
“The PDP believe in restructuring more than any other group and will guarantee this through the Constitution, if I am elected,” Turaki, who solicited their support, stressed.
In his remarks, the state chairman of the party, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu commended the aspirant for his leadership qualities as the National Vice Chairman of the party, North East zone.
Nwobu said the defection by some members of the National Assembly to the PDP had given the party a boost in the state.
