The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State says it has uncovered a plan by the Peoples Democratic Party to blackmail former governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
The State APC claimed that the alleged plan was intended to portray the former governor as corrupt in a bid to put him in bad light before the public.
State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chris Finebone said the alleged plan was being coordinated by a national officer of the PDP and some close aides of Governor Nyesom Wike.
He said the architects of the plot intended to formulate and contrive a false report bordering on alleged corrupt practices and circulate same to individuals and institutions within Nigeria and abroad.
The APC said the goal of the plan was to damage the reputation of Rotimi Amaechi and put pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari not to appoint the former governor into his government.
According to Finebone, “Those the cooked up report will be sent to include the World Bank, UK High Commission, EU Commission and several international organisations such Transparency international amongst other.
“The forged report will also be sent to Local and foreign media houses.
“The sum total of Nyesom Wike’s effort is aimed at generally ensuring that the rising profile of Rotimi Amaechi is rolled back, dented and he is made politically irrelevant in the scheme of things.
“The APC will like to put Nigerians on notice to completely ignore such reports whenever they surface in the media in the name of fake and contrived groups.
“We also urge various security agencies to expeditiously unmask the persons behind this highly malicious report and bring them to justice immediately”.
