PDP overrules Uba’s emergence, confirms Nwoye as Anambra guber candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that its candidate for the November 16 Anambra governorship election is Tony Nwoye.

This follows the emergence of two separate candidates as a result of parallel primaries held in the state. While one of the primaries was conducted at Emaus House in Awka by the PDP faction led by INEC recognized state chairman Ejike Oguebego, another was held by the Prince Ken Emeakayi-led executives at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Aspirants that took part in the primaries at Emaus House include Senator Andy Uba, Emma Anosike, Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe, Mr. Patrick Ugboma and Chief Ugocukwu Okeke.

Uba emerged winner after he polled 645 votes, as against Anosike’s 110, Ugboma’s 89, Ugokwe’s 86 and Okeke’s 20.

At the Alex Ekwueme Square, Comrade Tony Nwoye, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, Chief Charles Odunukwe, Walter Okeke and Mrs. Krema Agatha were present.

At the end, Nwouye, a former president, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), was declared winner.

But reacting on Monday in Abuja, PDP national chairman, Bamanga Tukur, stated the the report of the party’s electoral panel chaired by Governor Ibrahim Shema, affirmed Nwoye as the winner.

According to him, all members are expected to fully support Nwoye in winning the forthcoming poll.

Tukur’s position, which officially is the party’s, means Uba will have to wait for four years to have another shot at contesting the governorship election of Anambra.
