PDP kicks against imposition, assures of credible primaries

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday reiterated its commitment to the principles of internal democracy and resolved to conduct free and credible primaries.

Mr Chinedu Ogah, the party’s Youth Leader in Ebonyi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki that PDP would not allow imposition of candidates.

According to him, arrangements are in place to ensure smooth, free, fair and credible primaries for the 2015 polls.

“There is going to be a level playing field for all the aspirants for various political positions and the contest will be free and credible.

“PDP is a party of disciplined people and adheres strictly to the provisions of its constitution and the Electoral Act.

“Our detractors will be disappointed because there will be no crisis in the party.

“Our candidates will emerge in transparent, free and credible primaries.

“Again the party has assured members, at different fora, that it will not support any imposition of candidates,’’ Ogah said.

He said the success of the ward congresses on Nov. 1, was an indication that the party in Ebonyi was determined to get things right ahead of the general elections.

“The party’s ward congresses, which took place across the 13 local governments, recorded massive success,’’ he added.

He dismissed the allegation of crisis in the Ebonyi chapter of the party, stressing that its leadership was intact.

Ogah said the party had repositioned to achieve total victory in the upcoming 2015 general elections.

“Our party, under the leadership of Gov. Martin Elechi, is intact and has been repositioned to achieve total victory in the 2015 general elections.

“Ebonyi is a PDP state and will continue to remain so long as democracy remained operational in the country,’’ he said.

He warned members to be wary of opposition politicians within the PDP fold who are bent on fomenting crisis in the party. NAN
