PDP, Jonathan connived to postpone elections because of leaked Ekiti tape – Falana

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, has disclosed other reasons behind the postponement of the 2015 general elections from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11 apart from the reasons officially given as insecurity and poor preparations on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to Falana, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led Federal Government conspired with the military and other security forces to pile pressure on INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, to postpone the election since they discovered that the Ekiti governorship election rigging tape had exposed their antics, as they were planning to use the Ekiti State rigging style for the entire country.

Falana, who was speaking at the maiden edition of a “Sit Out,” described as service of warning notice to anti-democratic forces in Nigeria, held at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, Lagos at the weekend, said the election postponement was to enable the Presidency and PDP return to the drawing table and re-strategise.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, however, warned the National Security Adviser to remember that he was not national security adviser to the chairman of INEC but to the President and so he and the security chiefs should keep off electoral matters and allow Jega do his job as constitutionally specified.

Falana also cautioned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, Zone 2, Mr. Joseph Mbu, over comments credited to him that he would kill several people if one policeman was killed.

“No one wants any policeman to be killed but we must let Mbu know that he is not a judge. When you have a case of murder, you should arrest the suspected murderer and take him before a judge in the court for his case to be decided. So, you do not have any right in law to kill anybody,” he warned the AIG.
