Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Enugu State had on Friday said the new opposition merger was to save Nigeria from drifting into a failed state.
The members who issued a statement after their meeting disclosed that their decision to join the new political formation was informed by the continuous corruption of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, alleging that the party had squandered not less than N50 trillion naira in the last 14 years.
They also accused the ruling party of failing to reciprocate the support it had received from the South-East in the past 14 years.
Representatives at the meeting were members of All Progressives Grand Alliance ,APGA, in the state led by Chief Peter Okonkwo, CPC led by Osita Okechukwu, ACN led by Val Nnaedozie and ANPP led by Emma Enukwu.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we are bidding good -bye to the PDP at all tiers of government –federal, state and local council because of pervasive corruption, resulting to the squandering of over N50 trillion accrued to the nation in the past 14 years.
“The regrettable outcome is dilapidated roads, epileptic power supply, gross unemployment, abject poverty and insecurity in the land.
“Secondly, we are bidding good- bye to the PDP because the South East since 1999 had voted massively for the PDP at every election and none of the promises made has been fulfilled.
What we witnessed is April – Fool fanfare launching of Onitsha Sea Port by President Goodluck Jonathan and six months down the line no boat talk less of sea vessel had berthed in the so called port”, the statement read in part.
APC described as “another make belief”, the announcement few weeks ago that the Second Niger Bridge had been awarded.
“We ask where is the design of the bridge? Where is the environmental impact assessment? Where is the property valuation report? What is the cost of the contract?”, APC stakeholders queried.
They equally raised the fears that the 3-D Seismic Survey’s money budgeted for Enugu Coal-Fired-Plant initiated by Professor Barth Nnaji in the 2012 Budget might have grown wings and flew into the pockets of very important officials of President Jonathan administration.
“In sum, as we approach 2015 general elections, we urge our people to join us in bidding good bye to the PDP for enough is enough; as no electorate ever rewards a political party for poor performance”, the group stated.
