PDP governorship aspirant blames Yobe’s retrogression to poor leadership

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Yobe state, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagun has said that, despite the vast endowment of natural resources, Yobe state remains a rural state in the country, thereby blaming the condition of the state on poor leadership by the incumbent government and its predecessors.

The former diplomat stated this in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Sunday in Potiskum town ahead of the March 2nd governorship/state assembly elections.

He said his mission to the state if elected as governor was to provide the required infrastructure that would create wealth.

“We have vast mineral resources and ours is to give the desired flow for investment so that wealth will be created, people will have jobs and economic activities would flourish so that the dependence on government will be reduced to the minimum”, he noted.

The gubernatorial aspirant was optimistic that, his chances of winning the poll were bright as people of the state wrre now looking at substance as yardstick and not partisanship in choosing their leaders.

“Coming from both private and public sectors, I think I have the capacity and that people of the state are yearning for that kind of person that can come and change the fortune of the state into becoming a better and more prosperous society”, Amb. Damagun boasted.

On anticipated challenges, the aspirant said, “In every contest, there are challenges, mind you I am fighting an incumbent government, but I believe with the will of God and the people yearning for change, it will come very easy with the help of Almighty Allah”.

“I want to crave the indulgence of Yobeans as this is an opportunity for them to express their desire for a better tomorrow and this opportunity comes in every four years, now it is the time. I am urging them at least to give us the opportunity to see our hands, because ever since the state was created it is being led by the same government. They should give us the opportunity to see in the next four years how we will be able to transform the state.”
