Report says Chief Bode George-controlled faction of the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cautioned President Goodluck Jonathan for nominating Senator Musiliu Obanikoro as a minister, claiming that the appointment will not add any value to the party’s chances of winning in Lagos State.
The faction which is also loyal to erstwhile minister of works, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, advised the President to suspend any ministerial appointment for Lagos State until the outcome of the re-scheduled governorship election.
A member of the faction who begged not to be named told Daily Trust that the nomination of Obanikoro by President Jonathan has further polarized PDP in Lagos State, alleging that many party members jubilated last week when the National Assembly postponed the screening exercise of ministerial nominees till this week. They hoped that Obanikoro would not scale through the exercise.
The source continued that party members were not pleased that President Jonathan nominated Obanikoro for a ministerial appointment without taking into consideration the mood of the party leaders and majority of the members in the State.
He listed some of Obanikoro’s misdemeanors which allegedly put the PDP in the bad books of Lagosians to include; his reaction to the governorship election he lost to Agbaje, his involvement in the alleged Ekiti State governorship election issue, disrespect to Chief Bode George and Chief Ogunlewe before and after the party’s primaries and his behaviour towards members of the party in Lagos when he was the Minister of State for Defence.
“We are all witnesses to his behaviour when he was the Minister of state for defence. He turned himself to a tin-god and nobody can control him within the party, even where it was obvious that what he did sometimes were not what a Minister should be found doing,” the insider revealed.
