PDP deputy national chairman defects to APC

The Deputy National Chairman (North) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Gamawa Babayo, has decamped to All Progressives Congress, APC.

This was announced in a post on Twitter by Bashir Ahmad, the media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He wrote: “We welcome former PDP Deputy National Chairman North, Alhaji Babayo Gamawa to our great party, APC. Everybody wants to be onboard as we smoothly moving to the #NextLevel. You are all welcome!”

This is coming less than 24hours after he was suspended by the PDP.

DAILY POST reports that the PDP suspended Babayo on Tuesday after the extra-ordinary session of its NWC last week.

On why the party suspended Gamawa, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s national publicity secretary said “The NWC found merit in the petition on allegation of dereliction of duty and anti-party activity as contained in Section 58 (1) e, f, g, h of the PDP Constitution.”

“Therefore, in exercise of section 29 (2) a, b and c, the NWC hereby invokes Section 59 (1) d of the constitution of the PDP on the Deputy National Chairman (North) and accordingly suspends him from the party immediately,” the statement read.
