The FCT police command said it stopped the Makarfi-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from using the ICC to avoid breakdown of law and order in the Nigeria’s capital City.
Recall that the FCT Police Command yesterday, stopped the Ahmed Makarfi-led PDP faction from gaining access to the ICC for their emergency meeting.
The command’s spokesman Anjuguri Manzah denied allegations that the police acted on the order of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The action of the police forced the meeting to hold at the Asokoro lodge of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The command said it prevented the Ahmed Makarfi-faction of the PDP from holding its stakeholders meeting at International Conference Centre, because it received credible intelligence that the two factions of the party were planning to use the venue for their meetings and a violent clash might have occurred.
Manzah said, “Credible intelligence at the disposal of the FCT Police Command indicated that the two factions i.e. the Ahmed Makarfi group and the Ali Modu Sheriff group scheduled to hold their meetings at the International Conference Centre today [Monday] and this can lead to serious clash and breach of public peace.”
He further explained that the police advised the ICC management not to allow any of the group to use the venue for any meeting to prevent breakdown of law and order.
