PDP crisis: Tukur moves to pacify governors as NWC affirms support for him

Following the events which saw 10 of the 12 members of the National Working Committee of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, denouncing the party chairman, Bamanga Tukur for his interference in the affairs of the Adamawa chapter of the party, the NWC has said it was nonetheless behind Tukur.

This comes amid reports that the chairman has embarked on peace moves, to placate the powerful Governors who are bent on seeing him being ousted from office.

Reliable sources say one of the conditions Tukur must accept, is to hands off the politics of his home state chapter of the party.

In a statement yesterday, National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh, said the Party’s National Working Committee was united under Tukur’s leadership and had been working in one accord to ensure good governance in the country.

He debunked reports that the Governors were at loggerheads with Tukur, adding that the party totally supports the President in his Transformation Agenda drive.

His statement:

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wish to reiterated that there is no division our leadership, as members of the National Working Committee (NWC) are solidly behind the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.”

“The PDP totally supports the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and has no problem at all with PDP State Governors contrary to speculations in some national dailies.”

“There is no division in the leadership of our party. We are solidly behind our National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and we are focused on ensuring good governance in the country.

“Some people are not just happy that we are working together, so they come out with all sorts of speculations to see that they cause disaffection in our party but I want to assure that we will not be distracted in our focus to ensure that we continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people.”

“The party leadership is working together with President Jonathan to ensure the delivery of his transformation agenda which is aimed at ensuring rapid development in all sectors of the economy for the benefit of all. We have one focus and that is to ensure massive development of the country in line with the manifesto of our party.”

“The leadership is working in harmony with the governors and that there was no issue in contention between the two parties.”
