PDP crisis: Pro-democracy groups condemn suspension of Wamakko

About 20 pro-democracy groups in the country, have described the suspension of Sokoto state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, as baseless and unfounded.

The National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, had last week suspended the governor over what it termed “anti-party activities.”

At a press conference held in Abuja, the coalition led by Executive Director of CPALD Comrade Joe Mesele, Emeka Nwana of Electoral Reform Project Initiative, Shaibu Abib of Save Nigeria Group, urged Nigerians to be wary of the antics of the PDP as a party.

They wondered why the party decided to take such an action against Wamakko on the mere excuse that he refused to pick phone calls of PDP National Chairman, Bamabga Tukur.

The Coalition said that it was saddened by the rising wave of pull-down syndrome in the polity, describing it as “unfortunate and callous” since after the election of Nigerian Governors Forum where Rotimi Ameachi emerged victorious.

According to them, “We have found out that the allegation making the rounds over the suspension of the Gov. Wamakko is meant to ridicule him and cow him.

“This is most unfortunate and wicked, and it should be condemned in all its entirety. The governor has laboured so much to ensure victory for the party at all level since he came to his fold and has also demonstrated it in sokoto by catering for the masses, hence such an allegation cannot sail,” the statement added.

The coalition however charged the governor not to be distracted by the development, noting that he should concentrate on consolidating on democracy dividends for the people of Sokoto state and Nigeria at large.

The coalition further urged the leadership of the party to as a matter of urgency rescind its decision on the governor.
